The given chart represents the proportion of men involvement in senior development in established technology companies over three decades from 1980 to 2010.
Overall, the percentages of men involvement in all companies had shown an increase, particularly IBM, which began in the lowest position, eventually managed to be dominant at the end of period. The trend for Apple was in the polar opposite to IBM, that was in the first position in the early period, however, reduced to the least position.
In 1980, Apple had the most men participation reaching 15%, while Microsoft was only at around 8% and IBM around 3.5%. Throughout the period, Apple experienced a relative fluctuation in 1985 and 2000 at about 12% and just below 20% respectively, before slightly increased in 2010 accounting for nearly 25%.
Distinguished trends were observed in both Microsoft and IBM, which substantially rose in the spend of 30 years. Microsoft which was initially only had 8% of men proportion, skyrocketed into almost 45% in 2010. Likewise, IBM started from the lowest at 3.5%, jumped high into above 60% at the end of the period.
