Apple, on the other hand, showed a more moderate upward trend. Its figure fell slightly from 15% in 1980 to 13% in 1985 before increasing to around 21% in 1995. After a small decline to 19% in 2000, the percentage rose again to 25% by the end of the period.
As for Microsoft, the proportion increased gradually from about 7% in 1980 to 15% in both 1995 and 2000. The company then experienced substantial growth, with the figure climbing dramatically to approximately 45% in 2010.
