The bar chart illustrates the production of the world’s oil in OPEC and non-OPEC countries. The production of oil in middle east OPEC countries steadily increased from 20th century than other OPEC countries.
In the end of the 19th century non OPEC countries were producing 12 million barrels per day compared to middle eastern OPEC countries which produced below than 5 million barrels per day back then. The trends later significantly changed in the early 2000’s. The first result worth pointing out is that middle eastern OPEC countries drastically produced 7 to 8 million barrels a day. Oil production of non OPEC countries started declining as the years passed. Another trend to be observed in this era is the participation of other OPEC countries trying to produce considerable amount of oil competing the existing producers.
However , the scenario of oil producers changed remarkably between 2010-20. Middle eastern OPEC countries produced more than 15 million barrels a day taking the lead. Other OPEC and non OPEC countries barrels per day showed downward trend.
Overall production of oil in the middle eastern OPEC countries boosted sharply from 1980 and 2020. In contrast other oil producers in the chart decreased their produce gradually.
