The bar chart presents the outcomes of a survey on the most common disturbances experienced by theatre audiences during performances.
As can be seen from the bar chart, the factors can be divided into two categories, namely sound-related and non-sound related factors. Generally, it is obvious that respondents feel more uncomfortable hearing noise than with non-sound related things. The sound group is the larger of the two; specifically, Rustling Sweets Paper emerges as the leading frustration, while Coughing is at around 80%. Whispering ranks in third place with more than 60% of the respondents mentioning it. Additionally, the themes of Mobile Phones and Sneezing maintain strong significance, with 52% and 48% of the surveyed group acknowledging their impact respectively . Bleeps are considered to be a source of distraction, appealing to 40% of those polled, as opposed to over 30% citing Snoring, making it the least irritating aspect in this group.
Moving on to the second group, Arriving Late is rated as the most infuriating thing with above 70% of the sample. The second most bothersome issue in this group is Tall People, with 30% of the poll. Big Hairdos and Flash Photography are both problems for 25% of survey respondents, while Armrest Hogging affects 20%. Generally, it is obvious that answerers are more uncomfortable with sound factors than non-sound ones.
