The bar chart provides information about the rate of contribution of the three sectors (Agriculture, Industry, and Services) in India for producing gross domestic products over 40 years. Units are given in percentage.
Overall, India’s gross domestic product largely came from agriculture at the beginning but followed a downward trend in the given period. On the contrary, services rose significantly over the period and outraced agriculture after 30 years. Regarding Industry, it maintained a steady growth in contributing country’s GDP.
In 1960, contributions from services were almost 20%, the second highest at that time. Then it climbed steadily and aided the GDP by almost 30% in 1980. It grew significantly in the year 1990 adding more than 15% to the previous rate and went over 60% last year. Industry helped 15% to raise the GDP of the country in the first year. It maintained a constant position of about 25% from the year 1980 to 2000.
On the other hand, Agriculture contributed the most, above 60% came from it in the year 1960. However, it showed a noticeable downward trend in the given period. There was a significant drop of almost 20% from the year 1990 to 2000 and ended up becoming the least contributed sector.
