The bar chart compares the contributions of agriculture, industry and services to India gross domestic product from 1960 to 2000.
Overall, the industry contribution was the lowest compared to other sectors during those years, except for the year 2000. Additionally, while the contribution made by agriculture gradually decreased over time, an opposite trend was true for the services sector.
In 1960, agriculture contributed 62% to the India GPD which was nearly tripled the percentage made by other sector. Since then, the agriculture contribution gradually dropped about 10% every decade before reaching its bottom at 13% in 2000. Whereas, the services sector contributed only 16% in 1960 but its slowly rising progress happened over the next 30 years before becoming the top contributor in 2000 with 62%, which was the same as the starting point of agriculture.
Besides, industry contributed the least to the country’s GDP with only 15% in 1960. In the next 2 decades, that sector’s contribution increased by 5% before remained unchanged in the last 30 years. In 2000, it became the country’s second contributor with 25%, leaving agriculture behind by 10%.
