The bar chart provided depicts how the rate of citizen’s attendance varied across age groups in music events in Australia in 2006, categorized by 3 types including classical, opera and popular ones
Overall, popular music events garnered the most attention from the younger age group (15-44), while opera events primarily attracted older attendees. Classical music was the least attended across both age groups.
For the younger group, aged 15 to 44, participation in popular music events was highest among all three categories, with 38% of those aged 15-24, 33% of those aged 35-44, and 27% of those aged 25-34 attending. Notably, the 35-44 age group had the highest participation rate within the younger category, accounting for a quarter of the total attendees. The other two age groups, 15-24 and 25-34, had similar participation rates in these events, around 14%. Classical music was the least popular among this group, with only 8% of 25-34-year-olds and 11% of the other two age groups attending.
In the senior group, aged 45 and above, opera was the most favored, with 15% of those aged 45-54 and 55+ attending. Interestingly, 13% of seniors attended popular music events, which was less than half of the participation rate seen in the younger group. On the other hand, classical music had a 10% attendance rate among those aged 45-54, followed closely by 8% for those aged 55 and above.
