The given bar chart delineates the percentage of Australian people from 5 different age groups attending three music events, according to statistics reported in the year 2006.
Overall, it is apparent that the young were more inclined to partake in music events as compared to those above 45 years old. While popular music events were dominantly favored by the younger groups, opera was the most familiar genre among audiences aged 45 and above.
Taking a closer look at the chart, one can see that the figures for the three youngest age groups showcased similar trends. They were most likely to participate in events featuring pop music with the attendance levels ranging from 27% to 38%, followed by opera and classical. Notably, 25% of Australian citizens aged 35-44 enjoyed opera music experience, which almost doubled the figures for the two younger groups. The classical genre modestly attracted the participation of 11% of people who belonged to the 15-24 and 35-44 age groups, which was higher than the proportion recorded among those between 25 and 34 by 3 percentage points.
Regarding the two older ones, opera events were the most popular option with the attendance rates of 15% across both groups. However, there was a wide gap in the level of interest for pop music surveyed among people of the two groups. 13% of Australian people aged from 45 to 54 attended these events, which nearly tripled the percentage recorded among those over 55 years old. In contrast, both age groups showed little difference in participation levels for classical events, ranging between 8 and 10 per cent.
