The group bar chart compares the proportion of people in five different age brackets who participate in a specific activity in the years 1990 and 2010.
Overall, the data show a significant fluctuation in the participation trends over the twenty year period. While engagement levels generally declined among younger age groups (18 – 50), there was a marked increased in participation among those aged 51 and older.
In 1990, the 36 – 50 age group showed the highest level of involvement, peaking at approximately 42%. This was followed by the 51 – 65 and over 65 category’s, both of which hovered between e0% and 35%. In contrast, the youngest demographic (18 – 25) recorded the lowest participation rate at just under 17%.
By 2010, the trend had reversed for the older generations. Participation among those aged 51 – 65 rose to nearly 40% becoming the most active group. Similarly, the over 65 category saw an uptick to 35%.By comparison, the 18 – 25 group’s involvement plummeted to less than 10%, and the 26 – 35 and 36 – 50 groups also experienced notable decreases, falling around 24% and 35% respectively.
