The bar chart shows the percentages of people in five different age groups who took part in a particular activity in 1990 and 2010.
Overall, it is clear that participation decreased among younger people over the twenty-year period, while it increased for the older age groups. The middle-aged group (36-50) was the most active in 1990, but the 51-65 group took the lead by 2010.
In 1990, about 42% of people aged 36-50 participated in the activity, making them the largest group. The 51-65 and over-65 cohorts had similar levels of engagement at around 32% to 35%. In contrast, the youngest group (18-25) had the lowest participation rate, at roughly 17%.
By 2010, there was a noticeable shift in the data. Participation for the 51-65 group rose to nearly 40%, while the over-65 group stayed relatively stable at 35%. Conversely, engagement among the younger groups fell. The 18-25 group dropped significantly to under 10%, and the 26-35 and 36-50 groups also saw decreases to approximately 24% and 35% respectively.
