The chart illustrates the level of outside investment in the economies of India and China between 2014 and 2019.
Overall, as can be seen, expenditure in China declined steadily throughout the period; on the contrary, India has received the lowest sums of investment from foreign sources. Despite this, the total amount of money that flowed into China was higher than India over the period of time surveyed.
The Chinese economy received just under 80 billion in 2014, after marginally falling to around 60 billion in 2015 and 2016, respectively. By the year 2018, the peak of 100 billion was reached before witnessing a sharp decline to 50 billion in the year 2019.
On the other hand, the quantity invested in India’s economy grew dramatically after it was first introduced in 2014, climbing to around 60 billion in 2015 and 2016 before falling back to just under 30 billion in 2017. In 2018, there was another dramatic increase to just under 60 billion, before returning to just over 20 billion in 2019. 2015 was the only year India’s level of foreign investment was higher than China’s, with the values of slightly over 60 billion and minimally under 60 billion, respectively.
