Overall, Sciences and Social Sciences were by far the most popular subjects for male and female students, whereas languages for men and Mathematics for women were much less preferred.
Starting with the most popular types of subjects. Social Sciences figure was almost as high as Sciences’s, at 24000 and 22000, respectively. Mathematics followed with 18000, which was 6000 higher than the figure for Humanities. A similar pattern can be seen for Literature. Sciences accounted for the largest share among men, at 23000, exceeding Social Sciences by a narrow margin of 7000. Social Sciences ranked second, while languages recorded only 200p, less than half the figure for Law among female.
Turning to the less popular types of subjects Languages were considerably more popular in females than in males, with the figure standing at 16000. Social Sciences accounted for 24000, while the proportions in Literature and Humanities were lower, with the respective figures at 12000 and 12000. As for The Arts, females recorded the highest figure, at approximately 9000. Humanities and Literature shared the same figure for females, at around 12000, which was twice as high as that of Law
