Overall, more males than females chose Science, Mathematics, Literature and Law, while females were more interested in Social Sciences, Languages and the Arts. Humanities was the only subject chosen by an equal number of male and female students.
Looking first at the subjects preferred by males, Science was the most popular, with about 22 thousand students, followed by Mathematics at approximately 18 thousand. Around 16 thousand male students chose Literature, while the figure for Law was about 11 thousand. Humanities had an equal number of male and female students, at around 12 thousand. The smallest number of males studied Languages, with only about 2 thousand students.
Regarding female students, Social Sciences was the most popular subject, with nearly 25 thousand students. Languages was the second most common choice, at approximately 17 thousand. About 12 thousand females selected both Humanities and Literature, while around 11 thousand chose Science. The Arts attracted about 9 thousand female students. Mathematics and Law were the least popular among females, with roughly 4 and 5 thousand students respectively.
