Overall, throughout most of the period, Sweden had higher divorce figures than Finland, and the Swedish data of people who broke up their marriage generally decreased while the other country’s had the opposite trend.
In 2011, the divorce rate in Sweden was at 43%; then in 2012, it increased slightly to 49%, which was the highest number throughout the period. In contrast, the figure for Finland accounted for 38% in 2011 and reached the lowest point of 32% in 2012.
In 2013, the statistic of individuals who were longer in a marriage in Sweden, however, fell gradually to 45% and finally slumped 38% by the end of the period. On the other hand, the portion of marital unions in Finland that ended rose steadily to 41% in 2014, and it remained stable until the end of the period, overcoming that of the other region by the end.
