The chart provided illustrate and compares the population and its change in an UK town between 1951 and 2011.
It is quite clear from the chart that the population of the town shows an upward trend from 1951 to 1991, rising from 100,000 to 200,00. However, in the year of 2011, the doubling trend stopped and the population decrease from 200,000 to roughly around 160,000.
The second bar chart compares the detailed demographic change of the town in these years. It is interesting that residents aged between 0-14, 15-29, and beyond 65 all presented an upward trend from 1951 to 2011. People below 14 took up approximately 15 percent of the population in 1951, and 2011, the percentage increased to slightly above 20 percent. The trend is similarly presented among people aged between 15-29. For people beyond 65, the increase was much more drastic, from 10 percent to roughly 25 percent. And an opposite trend is seen in the age group of 30-39 and 40-64. For example, in 1951 and 1971, the percentage of people between 30-39 accounted for 20 percent of the total population, yet the number fell to slightly over 10 percent in 2011. And, the fall was also quite ostentious in groups aged between 40-64. In 1951, people in this age group constituted almost 45 percent of the total population. However, in 2011, the presense of this age group decreased drastically, to approximately 21 percent.
