The bar chart shows information about the proportion male and females who can read and write in different regions, which are Central Asia, Central/ Eastern Europe, East Asia/ Pacific, Latin America/ Caribbean, Arab states, South and West Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa in 2011. It can be clearly seen that the percentage of male in Central Asia and Central/ Eastern Europe is the same percentage as percentage of females in that.

First at all, it is notable from the chart that the ratio of citizens who can read and write in Central Asia and Central/ Eastern Europe is the highest, nearly 100 percent. The literacy rate of boys in East Asia/ Pacific is as high as that in Latin America/ Caribbean. However, the percentage of females in the Pacific, which is 95%, is 5% lower than that in the Caribbean.

In terms of, the literacy rate in South and West Asia is the lowest of all, around 70% for men and 60% for women.
