The bar graph illustrates how many homes, each of which worth 5 million dollars or more, were sold in 2 countries and 5 other cities across the years: 2009 and 2014.
Overall, it is clear that all areas experienced an upward trend in the number of houses being sold, except for Singapore which recorded a reversed trend. Noticeably, London, Hong Kong and New York saw a greater demand for expensive houses than other counterparts.
In 2009, London and New York took the leading role in the above 5 million housing market, with 440 and 470 houses sold respectively. The number of homes sold in London had increased threefold by 2014, far higher than the figure for New York which maintained its second position at precisely 800. In addition, there were nearly 400 new home owners in Hong Kong for the 5 million USD and above price range before rising to 600 in 2014, which was 200 houses lower than New York.
Regarding the remaining categories, Miami, Los Angeles and Sydney had comparatively lower figures initially, with 220 homes sold in Miami and below 200 homes in Los Angeles and Sydney. Although the numbers of homeowners in all three cities rose moderately, Sydney recorded the most notable increase at approximately 250, overtaking Los Angeles which was slightly above 200, and nearly catching up with that of Miami.
Concerning Dubai and Singapore, both countries recorded incomparably lower figures in housing sales. While the number of houses sold in Singapore decreased from roughly 100 to 80, the figure for Dubai reached around 40 homes despite a minimal increase.
