According to the chart, the first significant increase occurred between 1985 and 1995, from around 48 percent to almost 60 percent. In the next ten year period, there was a similar large rise. By 2005, approximately 70 percent of people weighed too much. The upward trend continued into the 21st century but at a slightly lower rate.
In contrast, from the years 1965 to 1985 the rise in number of people who are weighty were no significant increase, just around 50 percent below. Approximately 45 percent of people were too heavy in 1965, and around 48 percent in 1975 and 1985.
