Overall, the percentage of the population aged 65 and over in three different countries has witnessed upward trends over the span of 50 years. In addition, the figure for Germany has accounted for the highest percentage throughout the period.
In 1980, the proportion of elders in Germany made up 15.51%, followed by the UK with 14.87% and Canada experienced the lowest percentage in the population aged above 65 with 9.51%.
In 2000, the percentage of elderly people in the UK decreased slightly to 14.61% and was equal to that of Canada. By contrast, Germany saw a noticeable increase, reaching 20.35%.
By 2030, 25.82% of the population aged above 65 in Germany is expected to head the list. The proportion of old people in Canada is predicted to rise significantly to 22.39% and surpass the figure for the UK to rank second by the end of the period.
