Overall, house prices in England and London rose significantly over the years, with the price in London remaining consistently highest in both years. It is also clear that London was the most expensive region, while North east was the least.
Looking first at the prices of houses in England and London, the average cost in England was far lower than in London, at around £140,000 and £200,000 respectively in 1995. By 2013, although housing prices had increased noticeably to £200,000 in England, this was nowhere near as high as the figure for London, which almost doubled, exceeding £400,000.
When it comes to the average prices in other regions of England in 2013, South east was the second leading region with the highest housing price, just over £300,000 after London. Next came South west, at around £270,000 while houses in North west were less expensive at £200,000. Midlands and North east were the most affordable regions as the prices were much lower with the respective figures of £120,000 and £100,000.
