The given bar chart illustrates how many male and female research students pursuing six different subjects at a US university in 2011.
Overall, the number of male participants in the most major was likely higher than their female counterparts, except for linguistics. Additionally, the greatest number of male students was seen in natural science, while the least fascinating one was mathematics.
In terms of male students, psychology, natural science and mathematics were the most favoured subjects in the examined year with around 200 students. The figure for engineering and programming was closely behind at approximately 150 students, while about only 75 students prefered to study linguistics.
Regarding female students, natural science had the most participants, followed by psychology with nearly 175 students. In contrast, linguistics, engineering and programming registered much lower figures, at roughly 110, 80 and 70 students respectively, while mathematics saw the smallest female cohort, with only 30.
