The three bar charts show how much money the government spent on education, the percentage of foreign students from 2020 to 2050, and the types of programs in 2050.
Overall, government spending decreased first and then slightly increased, while the number of foreign students mostly went up. In 2050, undergraduate programs are expected to be the most popular.
From 2020 to 2040, government spending fell from about $12 billion to around $6 billion. After that, it rose again to nearly $8 billion in 2050. At the same time, the percentage of foreign students increased from just above 10% to around 37% in 2040, then dropped slightly to 30% by 2050. The two trends went in different directions for most of the time.
In 2050, undergraduate programs are the largest group, making up about 45%. Master’s and doctorate degrees are similar, both just over 20%, whil associate degrees are the least common, with less than 15%.
