The charts illustrate the mortality rate by age and gender in Africa during three time periods : 1950, 1980 and 2010.
Overall, mortality rate showed a gradual decline throughout the period regardless of age and sex. The mortality rate by 61 and above had consistently the highest rate during the period, while the death rate in 20s experienced the lowest mortality rate. Meanwhile, Mortality rate by male began at over 35 percentage and steadily decreased at the end of the period, ended at about 25 percentage. Furthermore, Female mortality rate also had a decline from around 30% to 25%.

Especially mortality rate by gender, male and female differences were substantially high at the beginning of the period, ended at nearly the same rate in 2010, but still remained its original level.
