Overall, it can be seen that the employment rate of men is higher than the one for women in all countries and there is no change in that fact from 1970 to 2000. Secondly, the employement level dropped for all countries from 1970 to 2000. Furthermore, the male employment rate in the United States is the highest for both years compared to the three other countries. Lastly, it is interisting that the unemployement rate of women in Beligum saw an significant increase from 1970 to 2000.
In 1970, the United States had the lowest level of unemployement both for men and women. The rate of employment for men was peaking at around 86% and the one for women at around 78%. Beside the United States, Indonesia saw a similar low level of unemployement with an employement rate for men at around 82% and for women at around 64%. Belgium and Japan had a comparable level of unemployement with Japan facing a bit higher unemployment of women than Belgium.
In 2000, the United States still had the highest employment rate for men at around 79% but the unemployment of women increased significantly, resulting in an employement rate of women at around 41%. Beside the United states, Japan, Belgium and Indonesia also saw an decrease in their employment, with Belgium seeing the highest loss for the group of women from a rate of around 63% to around 9%.
