Overall, it can be observed that total number of individuals rose significantly during the period. Regarding the bar chart, female participation began at a very low level, but by the end of the period it was almost equal to that of male participants
In 1924, there were about 3,000 men taking part in the Olympics, while the number of women was very low. By 1952, the number of male athletes increased to around 4,500, and female athletes also increased slightly. In 1984, both men and women continued to rise, with women reaching about 1,500 participants. By 2012, the number of male participants was close to 6,000 and the number of female participants increased to nearly 4,800.
According to the line graph, the overall number of participants grew steadily from about 3,000 in 1924 to over 10,000 in 2012. The most significant increase happened between 1984 and 2012
