The chart and table depicts information on the population numbers and trends in Japan from past, present and future.
Overall, although the population of Japan was increased since the start of the period, the trends show that the figure will enormously decrease at the end. The population of senior citizens will also about to increase in the future.
In 1950, Japan’s population was 84.1 million, out of which 4.1 million were over the age of 65, almost 5% of the total population. There was a significant increase in the population and reached its peak at 127.8 million in 2005. However, this figure then fell to 125.4 million in 2015. Surprisingly, the number is predicted to be even more less at 89.9 million by the end of the period.
In 2005, there were 25.7 million of people having the age greater than 65, comprised of only 20% of the total population. This proportion will surge to 34% in 2035 as per trends. At the end of the period, the prediction says that 41% of people will be over the age of 65, which will be the largest percentage ever recorded throughout this timeline.
