Overall, the population in japan has steady growth up to year 2005 followed by a decline. At the same time the elderly population is rising significantly.
Analysis of the bar graph shows that Japan’s population increased consistently from 84.1 million in 1950 to a peak of 127.8 million in 2005. After this a gradual reduction predicted which indicate a decrease to 125.4 million in 2015 and declines to 89.9 million by 2055.

By 2005 this number had rised to 25.7 million, representing 20% of the population. Projections for 2035 represents this figure going to 37.2 million (34%) and reaching 36.5 million (41%) by 2055, which is two times of the year 2005 respectively.
