The line graph shows the proportion of British households in the UK that owned cars from 1951 to 2007. Overall, car ownership increased with time, and the percentage of household owned more than one car rose.
In 1951, just above 11 % of British households owned one car. Interestingly, the increase in the families with one car was corresponded with the decrease in those British households with no car. The figure climbed up considerably until 1967, when it plateaued at approximately 45%.
In the first year, owning more than more car was uncommon, with only about 2 % of households having two cars. The percentage of those households who owned two cars increased gradually, reaching just below 30 in 2007. Notably, Ownership of three or more cars began from 1967 onwards. While it rose, reaching about 10 % in 2007, owning three or more cars did not reach the other catergories’ level in the final year. It is worth mentioning that, by the end of 2007, the percentage of households without car had declined to close to 10 %.
