The bar chart compares the percentage of people living in the urban areas in different regions of the world in 1950, 2000, and the predicted figure for 2030.
Overall, the proportion of urban population increased over the period, and this trend is expected to continue in the future. Latin America had the highest rate of city dwellers, while Africa and Asia had the lowest figures in all three years.
In 1950, around 30% of the world’s population lived in cities. This figure rose to about 50% in 2000 and is predicted to reach 60% by 2030. Latin America had the highest percentage of city’s resident, starting at 40% in 1950, after which it experienced a significant increase to 70% by 2000 before ending the periods with an assumed 80% in 2030.
In contrast, Africa and Aisa had much lower urban population percentages. Both parts started at approximately 10-12% in 1950, and their figures similarly increased to 40% in 2000. By 2030, the citizens’ rate in these parts are predicted to rise further, with Asia at 55% and Africa at 50%, creating a slight gap between these regions.
