Looking at the commuting figures for distances between 0 and 1 miles, walking dominates this category, at 90%, followed by the figure for cycling, at 50%. By contrast, the car and bus use recorded the lowest numbers, with just under 10% of children using these modes. Regarding those who commute 1-2 miles, in this category, the bicycle had the highest usage, at around 78%, while walking and car users accounted for 60% and 20%, respectively. Buses were still the least preferred mode, with a figure of 10%.
When it comes to 2-5 miles, motorized transport became the dominant mode. Buses are becoming the most preferred, at 50%, followed by bicycles, at just under 50%, whereas cars are used by around 32% of children. Meanwhile, the figure for walking was around 5% lower than that for cars. For journeys over 5 miles, cars and buses were the only modes of transport used, at 68% and 22%, respectively.
