The bar chart below compares three reported challenges (learning the local language, finding somewhere to live, and making new friends) by three age groups, people between 18 and 34, 35 and 54, and over 55.
It is noticeable that tasks by age group are tremendously different, if young people are more successful in making friends, old people are better in new languages.
First of all, learning new languages has an upward trend with increasing age. Consequently, 29% of individuals from 18 to 34 learned a new local language, and only 35% of the average age group, whereas more than half of elder residents about 54% knew the local language.
By contrast, challenges such as finding a place to live and making friends have a negative trend with age. Between 18 and 34 the ability to make friends is widespread at about 46%, and around 40% of finding somewhere to live. By contrast, the number of individuals above 55 who made these tasks was a mere 23% and 22% respectively. Finally, the average age group between 35 and 54 was most stable 36% made friends, and 39 found a living place.
