The chart below illustrates the number of students studying in six distinct majors at a US university in the year 2010.
The graph shows that while male students dominated in Economics and Mathematics, Marketing and Accounting were female-dominated. Finance and Engineering had the same number of female and male students. Finance had the highest number of students majored in while the figure of Engineering was the lowest compared to other majors.
In Mathematics, male students were about four times as much as females, with 200 and about 50 students respectively. In constrast, females studied in Accounting were slightly more than males, with 200 and about 170 students respectively. This can be understood when males seem to be better at Maths than the females. Finance had the most students studied in, and the number of males and females there were similar, at approximately 225 students.
On the other hand, the number of boys who studied in Economics were twice as much as that of the girls, with 150 and about 75 students respectively. Compared to Marketing, females dominated, with about 125 females and 80 males chose to major in. Similar to Finance, Engineering had the same number of boys and girls, but it had the lowest students compared to the other majors, with only just over 50 students.
