The given bar chart compares the number of hours spent by 10 to 15-year-olds in the UK on two different activities, namely online chatting and playing computer games.
Overall, it is clear that playing computer games is marginally more popular than chatting on the internet. However, different trends can be seen for the two genders, with boys preferring the former and girls preferring the latter.
Looking at the boys first, they devote more time to playing console games than chatting online. According to the chart, while 85% of boys play computer games every day, only 55% chat online daily. Furthermore, the majority of them spend time on their consoles for more than one hour each day, and 10% do this activity for four hours or more. As for chatting, half of the figure accounts for less than an hour.
By contrast, 70% of 10 to 15-year-old girls engage in online conversation regularly, compared to about 50% of this cohort who play computer games. Similar to the boys, most of them spend more than one hour on their preferred activity (45%), whereas more than half of those who play on consoles do so for less than an hour (36%).
