The bar charts display UK teenagers’ time spent on a typical school day on 2 leisure activities: online chatting and game playing.
A general view indicates the fact that a larger proportion of teenagers use time for gaming, with around 8% gap relative to online chatting’s figure. In addition, more teenage boys spend time on the former leisure, while the reverse is true for the latter. Nevertheless, only a minority of both genders engage in these 2 activities for more than four hours.
Looking into more details, an approximately equivalent proportion of 25% is observed in both sexes for talking on social media. However, when it comes to more engagement time, 10% more teenage girls are enjoying chatting from 1 to 3 hours than boys, and that ratio becomes 2:1 for four hours or more. In contrast, more than half of the teenage boys willingly commit at least one hour to gaming, despite the larger proportion of girls who enjoy playing on console for less than an hour. At the extreme, 10% of the boy gamers playing for 4 plus hours, overwhelmingly exceed that amount of the other gender as well as double the corresponding total proportion.
