This chart illustrates the average delay ( in minutes ) in flight departures at various famous airports in the USA ( Dalas, New York, Chicago and San Francisco) between 1996 and 2015. We can observe that for most airports, as time passed, the average delay as decrease. Although, this delay is extremely flexible depending on the location of the airport.
Indeed, in the Chicago’s Airport between 1996 and 2000, the the medium delay in flight departures was around 35 minutes, in that same place 10 years later ( 2006-2010) this waiting time decreased by far ( around 10 minutes). Between those two times periods, the waiting time has been divided by two.
Nevertheless, this delay is particularly variable depending on the location of the airport. For instance, in New York’s airport around 1996 and 2000, the waiting time was about 32 minutes, between 2011 and 2015 ( more than 15 years after) this number is only slightly inferior ( around 28 minutes).
Many factors can explain those gaps. On the first hand, the progress in the technology : nowadays the advent of artificial intelligence as well as robotics has made the circulation of humans around the globe easier, decreasing the delay in flight deportures . On the other hand , some places suffers from over tourism. In fact, when travelling to other countries as became easier and faster than ever before, people have started wanting to discover the world. Some few places are viewed as ” the place to go at least one in a life time”, New York is one of them. The increasing popularity of this city can explain the longer delay at the airport compared to others big cities in the USA. Although this mondialisation and rise of fight travelers have some serious consequences on the environment, with this climatic change happening and destroying our planet, is it really necessary for us to discover other countries?
