The bar chart shows the typical time that married men and women spend per day in paid and unpaid employment.
Overall, it’s clear that the highest point of time spent was approximately 11 hours per day in total, while the lowest was about 2 hours per day.
To begin with, the chart shows that husbands aged 25–44 spend approximately 9 hours per day in total: 6 hours in paid work and 3 hours in unpaid work at home, while wives who are in the same age group allocate about 11 hours altogether.
However, husbands aged 25–44 spend more time in paid work, while the time spent by wives in paid and unpaid work is nearly equal. Paid work takes 6 hours, whereas unpaid work takes 5 hours.
On the other hand, husbands aged 45–64 devote approximately 8 hours per day in total. In paid work they spend 4 hours, and in unpaid work they have one more hour difference in time — they allocate only 4 hours in unpaid work at home. Meanwhile, females at the same age, like males described previously, spend about 11 hours in total. Again, the difference between paid and unpaid work is not very big: in paid work they spend 7 hours, while they spend only 4 hours in unpaid work at home.
