The line graph compares the number of incidents for three areas of crime, including burglary, car theft, and robbery in New Port city center between 2003 and 2012.
Overall, it is clear that the proportion of incidents due to burglary was by far the highest at the beginning of the period, but decreased rapidly from 2004 and 2008. Furthermore, the number of incidents caused by robbery and car theft remained consistently throughout the period.
A closer examination reveals that during the initial phase from 2003 and 2004 the number of incidents for burglary rose slightly from 3400 to 3800, but after that it started declining from 3800 in 2004 to about 1100 incidents in 2008. The rates of burglary in the remaining period increased a little bit, but remained more or less unchanged around the point of 1400 incidents, while the incidents because of car theft stayed constant at about 2800 incidents between 2003 and 2005 years, before its sudden drop to approximately 2000 incidents in 2006. The number of incidents caused by robbery began at 650 in 2003, showed minor fluctuations over the following years, and eventually returned to its initial level, reaching 650 again by 2012.
