The chart illustrates the different levels of post-school qualification among men and women in Australia in a single year.
Overall, males were more likely to hold vocational, postgraduate diplomas, and master’s degrees, while females had a higher proportion of undergraduate diplomas and bachelor’s degrees.
As can be seen from the given data, males had a much more excellent representation of vocational diplomas than females (9 out of every 10 diplomas held). The next two higher qualifications are postgraduate and master’s degrees; males overwhelmed females by 70 percent and 60 percent, respectively, and there seems to be an increasing trend for men. In contrast, women significantly surpassed men in undergraduate diplomas; the discrepancy was almost reversed (75 percent females as opposed to 40 percent males). In bachelor’s degrees, females held more than half of the qualifications, accounting for approximately 55 percent. These numbers show a gender disparity in the distribution of post-school qualifications in Australia in 1999.
