The chart illustrates the market share for six different Internet browsers from 2011 to 2021.
Overall, among other desktop browsers, Chrome rose to the highest market share over the years. While Firefox and Internet Explorer experienced declining popularity, other browsers saw no constant changes.
Although Internet Explorer initially had the highest market proportion, this position was then taken over by Chrome in the latter years. The market share of Internet Explorer decreased exponentially over the years, falling from around 40 percent to a negligible level in 2021. In contrast, Chrome gradually established its dominance over the desktop browser market as its share surged from 20 percent to more than 70 percent at the end of the period.
The other browsers experienced much smaller proportions, either stabilizing or decreasing in popularity over time. Although Firefox held 26 percent of the market share in 2011, that figure fell sharply, hitting only 5 percent by 2021. As for the other browsers, including Safari, Opera, and Edge, they showed minimal changes in market share, ranging from 1 percent to just 4 percent during the same period.
