The line graph illustrates the distribution of the market share for various Internet browsers from 2007 to 2014.
Overall, the proportion of Chrome witnessed a sharp increase before ending the period as the dominant figure in the market. By contrast, the market shares of Internet Explorer and Firefox decline gradually, while Opera and Edge, the two least preferable browsers, experienced negligible change in ten years.
In 2011, Chrome’s market share started at one-fourth of the total share surveyed, which was significantly lower than the two highest figures, Firefox (around 30%) and Internet Explorer (approximately 40%). A year later, Chrome experienced a sharp increase to share the same proportion as Internet Explorer at around 35% before becoming the most popular desktop browser among all software, ending in the first place in 2021 with more than 65%. Meanwhile, Internet Explorer and Firefox witnessed a downward trend to more or less one-tenth of the total share in the final year, making them go from the most favourite applications to less preferred choices.
Throughout ten years, Opera and Edge, two least prevalent options, share comparable figures. While Opera remained stable at more or less 5% between 2011 and 2021, the figure for Edge saw a negligible rise in 2019 before surpassing Opera with around 10% at the end of the period.
