The chart gives information about the number of tourism jobs related to industries – restaurants / hotels, sports / leisure and travel / tourism – in a UK city from 1989 to 2009
Overall, restaurant / hotels jobs showed the highest figures throughout the period, while sport / leisure and travel / tourism accounted for a subsequent decrease. It is also worth mentioning that restaurant / hotels experienced the largest share among other sectors.
At the beginning of the period, the figure for restaurants and hotels rose from roughly 1100 to about 1600 by 1999. Then, the figure remained relatively similar in the last decade.
In contrast, in 1989, sport / leisure and travel / tourism started at roughly 800. Subsequently, the number of jobs fluctuated and this was followed by a decrease, falling to approximately 700 and 400, respectively in the end of the period.
