The chart compares the total number of jobs in tourism industries in UK between 1989 and 2009.
Overall, it can be seen clearly from the chart the figure for restaurants experienced dramatic growth throughout the period, while both hotels, sport and leisure have fluctuated over the timeframe. Meanwhile, number of travel and tour declined.
Initially, total number of restaurant jobs accounted for 1100, before rising significantly to 1300 in 1994. Then the number grew from 1300 to 1400 in 1999. Surprisingly, the figure of restaurants reached a peak, stood at 1600, then represented nearly 1300 at the end of the period in 2009. The figure for hotel jobs increased dramatically from nearly 1050 to 1400 in 1994 respectively. Subsequently, the number fell slightly stood at approximately 1000 in 2009.
Meanwhile, total number of sport and leisure decreased from 900 to 700 in 1994. However, the figure rose steadily to 1050 in 1999. Respectively, figure showed a moderate decrease at the end of the period. At the same time, travel and tourism job increased from 800 to 1050. Then the figure declined stable towards to the end of the period.
