The line graph compares the number of users (in millions) of three mobile phone brands – Apple, Samsung, and Nokia – in Montreal between 2010 and 2015.
Overall, all three companies experienced an upward trend over the period, although the patterns of growth differed significantly. Apple dominated the market for most of the timeframe and recorded the most dramatic increase, while Samsung showed noticeable fluctuations. Nokia, despite starting with the smallest user base, demonstrated a strong early rise before stabilising.
In 2010, Apple led the market with 35 million users, compared with 26 million for Samsung and only 16 million for Nokia. Apple’s user base grew steadily over the following years, reaching 43 million in 2012 and continuing to rise to 50 million in 2014. This growth accelerated in the final year, when Apple peaked at approximately 68 million users, firmly consolidating its leading position.
Samsung, by contrast, experienced a more volatile trend. Starting at 26 million users in 2010, its figures climbed sharply to a peak of 47 million in 2012, briefly overtaking Apple. However, this was followed by a notable decline to 36 million in 2013 and a further drop to 32 million in 2014, before recovering to 44 million by 2015.
Nokia began with the lowest number of users but saw a rapid increase from 16 million in 2010 to 39 million in 2012. Thereafter, the figure remained relatively stable, fluctuating slightly around the low 40s, and finished the period at approximately 42 million users.
