Overall, it is clear that watching TV sees the highest proportion of activity done by both genders, while playing computer games shows the opposite trend. Additionally, about the differences between two genders, females dominate the shopping category, whereas using the internet is most popular with males.
Looking first at activities that are led by males, watching TV ranked first, with more than 75% followed by spending time with family, doing sport/exercise, each with 75%. In addition, reading and using the internet record the same figures, each activity at approximately 74%. By contrast, shopping and playing computer games are the least preferred, at about 27% and 20%, respectively.
Turning female’s preferences, they showed a similar pattern when watching TV and spending time with family were the most preferred activities in both genders, at more than 75%. Furthermore, shopping, doing exercise and reading come next with their figures ranging from 70%. Finally, while using the internet is the most popular activity in males, females’ figures record the opposite trend, with only about 40%, and playing computer shows the smallest percentage, with 18%.
