The given bar graph illustrates the proportion of the people living in cities in the entire world and in six different regions in the years 1975, 2020 and 2050.
Overall, the population has significantly increased in all the different regions of the world while the population of Oceania remained constant over the three different years. Out of all the different regions the amount of people living in the cities of Europe, Latin America and North America are quite similar over the years.
In 1975, North America had the highest population of about 72% of people living in the cities followed by Oceania with a population of 70% and Europe with a population of about 65% while Asia and Africa had the lowest urban population of about 25%. But by 2020 the urban population of Asia saw a significant increase to almost double it’s population in 1975. And the population of Africa and Latin America rose by 20%. Europe and North America also saw a slight increase in it’s population by 10% while the urban population of Oceania remained constant over the years.
By the year 2050, the urban population will continue to increase by at least 5% in all the six different regions of the world. And North America will continue to have the highest urban population of 82% followed by Latin America and Europe with 81% and 74% respectively. On the whole, the world’s urban population would rise by 30% from 39% in 1975 to about 69% in 2050
