Overall, it is possible to see an increase in urbanization almost universally across the globe, although variations in levels and rates are evident.
From 1975 to 2020, the increasing in global urbanization grew from 40% to 56% and is expected to achieve 70% by 2050. Africa and Asia are the primarily driven for this rise due to the most significant increase from 1975 to 2020 of population in urban areas. In Africa, it grew from 25% to 45% and in Asia from 25% to 50%. By 2025, the number is expected to grow by at least another 10% in each of the regions. However, these two continents will still remain the least urbanized.
In contrast, Europe, Latin America and North America shows some of the highest urbanization rates, which never heated less than 65% since 1975. However, the growth is continuous, from 1975 to 2020 it never passes increased more than 15%. In the future, the forecast says that will grow only more 8% in each one of the tree regions.
