The bar chart shows the different proportions of male and female students studying six art-related subjects in a UK university in 2011, which are Linguistics, Philosophy, English Language & literature, history & archaeology, art & design, and Communication & Media Study with intervals of 50 people.
At first glance, it is clear that more female students choose to study these art subjects compare to male students, with philosophy having the biggest difference in proportion. Additionally, Art & Design is the only subject which male students have a higher proportion compared to their female counterparts.
In more detail, female students outnumber male students by triple the amount studying Philosophy, with a number of 150 compared to 50. Linguistics, Communication & Media Study, and History & Archaeology have 30, 50, and 60 more female students studying them respectively. There are more male students studying Art & Design, with 175 people compared to 150 people. It seems that Philosophy, and History & Archaeology have fewer students overall, but generally more female students tend to choose art-related subjects compared the opposite gender.
