The following bar chart indicates data on the amount of waste discarded in a European country across three categories over three years since 2005. Overall, there was a significant downtrend in landfill contaminants, an uptrend in the amount of burning waste, and a fluctuation in sea dumps.
To start, in 2005, landfill waste began at 1800 million tonnes, the highest recorded in the chart. The following year saw a sharp drop of 600 million tonnes, settling at 1200 million tonnes. Over the subsequent two years, the number again decreased dramatically, reaching a final figure of 600 million tonnes.
Simultaneously, the number of dumps caused by burning initiated at 500 million tonnes in 2005, increasing slightly in the following year and gradually rising in 2007. It peaked in 2008 at 900 million tonnes. However, waste dumped at sea exhibited fluctuations. In the first two years, it increased from 600 million tonnes to slightly more. Two years later, it returned to the original amount and experienced a minor decline.
