Overall, most tourists used cars to move around New Zealand, while ferries were the least popular option. Japanese and Korean visitors preferred travelling by air more than tourists from other countries.
Car travel was the most common way of transport for British, German and Australian tourists, with around 50-60% using it. Korean tourists also used cars quite often, about 45%, but only about a quarter of Japanese visitors chose this type of transport.
Air travel was most popular among Japanese tourists (a bit over 50%), followed by Koreans (about 45%). Around 40% of British and German visitors used planes, and the lowest percentage was among Australians, at about 30%. Coach travel was used by about a quarter to a third of tourists, while ferries were the least used, with only 10-20% of travellers choosing them.
To sum up, cars were the main transport for most tourists, but people from Japan and Korea preferred to fly more often than others.
