The bar chart illustrates the proportion of four different types of transport, namely air, coach, car and ferry, used by visitors from five countries (Britain, Germany, Japan, Korea and Australia) travelling to New Zealand in 2004.
Overall, coach was generally the most popular vehicle, whereas ferry accounted for the lowest proportion. Car travel was particularly common among Korean visitors, while air transport was a major contributor among Japanese tourists.
More precisely, British, German and Australian tourists preferences were largely similar to each other. The largest proportion was coach usage, which was higher than 50%. The second popular type of vehicle was air transportation, which constituted approximately 40% among British, 45% among German visitors and 25% among Australians. Car use was less common, whereas the least used was ferry.
In terms of Koreans and Japanese, visitors from Korea travelled mostly by car and air, which made up 45% and 42% respectively. Meanwhile, Japanese people preferred air transport that accounted for the highest proportion (55%), closely followed by coach (47%). The least preferred type of vehicle among both travelers was ferry, constituting nearly 8 percent.
